The Curve of Your Face, or, The Memory of Those Unfindable

[A 7 minute free write I did with P. today. The prompt was disappearance.]

Adam Gnaw. Lori Bowers. Jayson Gerrick. Eunice Baldwin. Tonya Scowden.

There are people in your past- background characters that somehow become significant- that disappear into time and location.

Rodney. You chain smoked at 17 and drank Mountain Dew at 7 in the morning. You smelled slightly of gasoline and hair gel- your hair always appearing and smelling slightly damp. You were a foot shorter than anyone around you, and donned a Triple Fat Goose jacket that always looked like it was about to fall off your shoulders.

I remember us stopping by your house one day after school, and your mom deciding that I was the girl you were going to marry.  She was close: You would be the stubble-chinned friend who taught me how to drive.
